Izmir, Turkey, March 16, 2017. On Thursday night, Dinamo MOSCOW rallied to a comprehensive 3-0 away victory (25-20, 25-17, 25-16) in their matchup with hosts Arkas IZMIR on schedule for the Playoffs 12 of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men.
Arkas IZMIR had finished as the runners-up in Pool C and following the Drawing of Lots for the Playoffs 12, the Turkish team had to play Dinamo MOSCOW, who had taken the second place in Pool A. The visitors from the Russian capital played with much intensity and a lot of consistency right from the beginning of the match, this resulting in a 25-20 win. Dinamo MOSCOW set the pace from start to end of the second set (8-7, 16-10), as they produced a 25-17 score to double their lead in the match. Arkas IZMIR tried to put up a fight in the third set but Dinamo were not to stop and by means of their imposing blocks and powerful serves, the Russians rallied to a 25-16 win to seal a 3-0 victory.
Yury Berezhko top scored in the match with 17 points for Dinamo MOSCOW, as Cuban-born Michael Sanchez Bozhulev recorded 12 for Arkas.
“It is really difficult to cope with the super strong serves and massive blocks of the Russians. They are one of the best teams in the world. You have to play very disciplined against a team like this. In some part of the game we managed to put up a fight but they served hard and this caused many problems to us,” commented the head coach of Arkas IZMIR, Glenn Hoag.
